Recently, during a press conference held in Japan by newly named Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, it was announced that the company would be focusing on the development of better games rather than new hardware. On the hardware side, Iwata stated that technology had come to a point where upgrading isn't a necessary option. "We can't be optimisitic about the game market. No matter what great product you come up with, people get bored," he said. "I feel like a chef cooking for a king who's full." Iwata also said that the company would not be focusing on the online market, that it was too early to tell if the online model would be profitable. Nintendo will instead be working on expanding the link options between their GameCube console and the handheld Game Boy Advance in future projects. Former Nintendo president, Hiroshi Yamauchi, said that original games could become extinct. "The element of surprise is critical. But delivering surprise is becoming extremely difficult. Game Developers are running out of ideas." he said. "The effort to produce machines with better technology has reached its limit," Iwata said. "If things continue, they may lead to the decline of the entire game industry."

Nintnedo has advertised the game Eternal Darkness in the latest issue of Playboy magazine. While this may surprise some, others are aware of the game's mature nature so advertising it in a magazine geared towards an adult audience isn't too surprising. The advertisement consists of a closet containing normal clothing with one straight jacket hanging on a hook. The caption on the bottom which is written in messy handwriting reads: "Insanity. You'll learn to live with it." Below this it says: "Witness insanity through the eyes of ten amateur filmmakers at Eternal Darkness. Then experience the madness firsthand in Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, only for Nintendo GameCube." followed by the url: eternaldarnessfilms.com.

Many have heard the rumors explaining why there isn't a demo mini-DVD included with the Nintendo Magazine. Some said it was because of the high cost, others have said it was due to the difficulty of design, while some analysts have said it is because Nintendo likes to be secretive about their games. The real reason is now out. During a recent interview with Shigeru Miyamoto by Nintendo Magazine, he was asked, "Many of our readers asked us: why don't we get GameCube demos with the official magazine?" In response, Shigeru Miyamoto said "I do not want the players to have a false idea of a game. In a demo, the game is under development and never reflects really what you will feel with the final version of the game. It is thus so that the players do not have false ideas about a game which can still change, that I am not favorable to the demonstrations."
